E-Mail Lists at Michigan Tech

Tech Today (tech-today-l): Daily campus announcements and news sent by University Marketing and Communications.

Automated class lists: List membership is updated nightly from course rosters. Lists are removed when the academic term ends.

To request a class list, fill out this form: List Application Form

Campus standing lists: These mailing lists are set up by Distributed Computing Services on behalf of faculty and staff, and student organizations. Uses include department, committee, or organization lists. This service is limited to University-related activities only. In general, these lists are voluntary, that is, the members have subscribed themselves or have given permission to be on the list roster.

More about campus standing lists:

In general, standing lists have an on-going function and must have an information file containing a brief description of the list's purpose. List names must end in -l (dash ell) to distinguish it as a list.

List owners must have a valid mtu.edu e-mail address and monitor their list to make sure it is used for the purpose for which it was established. An owner may remove list members who are sending inappropriate e-mail. In the event of technical abuse which results in a loop, generating large number of messages posted to the list, please notify Distributed Computing Services at 487-0010 immediately.

Fill out the white section of this form: List Application Form

Mailing lists which have not been used for more than 6 months are subject to removal. We may also remove invalid userids from lists to ensure that the list mail does not bounce. If a mailing list is generating huge amounts of inappropriate mail, or we are receiving complaints from a significant amount of list members, DCS will try to contact the owner of the list. We may temporarily disable a list if needed.
