Setting up a new account
Converting an existing account
To configure a new account:

In the menu bar, click on Tools and select Accounts.

Click Add and select Mail from the list. The Internet Connection
Wizard window will appear.

Fill in the text boxes with the following information:

Your Name - Choose the name you want to appear on outgoing
mail, then click the Next button. Most people will opt
for their real name (i.e. Joe Smith).

Internet E-mail Address - enter your mtu.edu address,
for example jsmith@mtu.edu, then click Next.

E-mail Server Names - You will see a line of text that
reads My incoming mail server is a POP3 server. If it says
something else, select POP3 from the drop-down menu. Below
this drop-down menu are two text boxes, one for an Incoming
mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP server and one for an Outgoing
mail (SMTP) server. Enter the value email.mtu.edu
into both boxes then click the Next button.

Internet Mail Logon - In the text box for Account
Name, enter your MTU UserID. Your UserID is the part of
your email address to the left of the @. For example,
if your MTU Email Address is jsmith@mtu.edu, your User
ID is jsmith. In the text box labeled Password,
enter your MTU ISO
Password. If you'd like to be prompted for your password every
time you check your email, uncheck the box titled Remember
Password. Otherwise, your password will be automatically
used to log you in.

Congratulations - Click Finish to close the Internet
Connection Wizard window.

After clicking Finish the Internet Accounts window will
still be open, and your new account information (listed under the Accounts
column as email.mtu.edu) will be visible. Click on this entry
and select Properties from the buttons along the right side.

A window titled email.mtu.edu Properties will appear. There are
several tabs along the top, allowing you to change the settings you
entered above. Click on the tab labeled Servers. At the bottom of
the window, under Outgoing Mail Server, click the checkbox labeled
My server requires authentication. Make sure that the box labeled
Log on using Secure Password Authentication is NOT checked.

Click on the tab along the top labeled Advanced. Under Outgoing
Server (SMTP) click the checkbox labeled This server requires
a secure connection (SSL). Below that, under Incoming Server
(POP3), click the checkbox labeled This server requires a secure
connection (SSL).
Under the Delivery heading, check the box labeled Leave a
copy of messages on server as well as the box next to Remove
from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'.

Click the OK button to close the email.mtu.edu
Properties window. Then click the Close button to close the
Internet Accounts window. A dialog box will appear, asking Would
you like to download folders from the mail server you added?. If
you have an internet connection and would like to use your new account
right away, click yes. Otherwise, click no.

Outlook Express should now be configured correctly. To check your MTU
Email, click on the email.mtu.edu icon under the Folders tab
along the left hand side of the Outlook Express window.
To change an existing account:
Note: If your existing account uses a POP server, you
must create a new account; you cannot convert an existing POP account
to use an IMAP server and vice versa.

Click on Tools and select Accounts.

The Internet Accounts window will appear. Click on the
account that you would like to change, then click the Properties
button.

A window titled <account name> Properties will appear,
where <account name> is the nickname that your existing account
had. There are several tabs along the top, allowing you to change the
settings you entered above. Initially you will be in the General
tab. Change the Name: to the name that you'd like to appear on
your outgoing mail, and change the E-mail address: to your MTU
Email address. You can also change the Mail Account nickname
to whatever value you'd like.

Click on the tab labeled Servers.
At the bottom of the window, under Outgoing Mail Server, click
