Configuring > Outlook 2007

  1. First, open Outlook. If the New Account Wizard appears, click Next. Otherwise, go to Tools and then Account Settings and click New... [Image]
  2. If E-mail Upgrade Options is shown, click Do not upgrade and click Next. [Image]
  3. Choose Yes and click Next. [Image]
  4. Check the box to Manually configure server settings or additional server types. [Image]
  5. Make sure that Internet E-mail is selected and click Next. [Image]
  6. Type in the following User Information
    • Your name - example June Smith
    • Your email address - example jnsmith@mtu.edu
    • For Account type, choose IMAP
    • Incoming mail server - email.mtu.edu
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) - email.mtu.edu
    • Username - example jnsmith
    • Password - your MTU ISO password
    • If do not check Remember password you will be prompted for your password each time you access Outlook. Being prompted is safer and will keep others from accessing your email account.
    • Click More Settings ... when you are finished [Image]

  7. Click on the Folders tab and choose your preference for where Outlook stores your sent mail. You can either save the mail you sent in Outlook's dedicated folder or select to choose a folder from Michigan Tech's server, such as the default Sent folder that HuskyMail uses and highlight that folder.   8. Click on the Outgoing Server tab and check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and Use same settings as my incoming mail server. [Image]
  9. Go to the Advanced tab and, under Incoming server, choose SSL from the list. [Image]
  10. Under Outgoing server, choose TLS from the list. [Image]
  11. For Outgoing server, type either 25 or 2525 for the port number. Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as Charter and SBC do not allow you to use port 25, so, in those cases use 2525. It should work with other ISPs as well, so you can use port 2525 for most cases. Click OK when finished. [Image]
  12. Click Next [Image]
  13. Click Finish to complete set up.
