Configuring > Mozilla Thunderbird for IMAP servers
Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0 (other versions are similar)

Open Mozilla Thunderbird and, if a the New Account Wizard pops up, skip to step two. Otherwise, go to Tools => Account Settings
Select Tools and then Account Settings

Choose E-mail Account and click Next.

Type in the name that you wish to show up on the "From" portion of
e-mails that you send. Type in your e-mail address, such as jnsmith@mtu.edu

Select IMAP and type in email.mtu.edu under Incoming Server and Outgoing Server and click Next to continue.

Type in your Incoming User Name (what comes before the @mtu.edu in your
e-mail address) if necessary and click Next. You can ignore the message
about your SMTP server being identical to your incoming server.

Type in the name you want for the account, such as Michigan Tech Email Account and click Next.

Make sure that all of the information it shows is correct and click Finish.

Click Cancel when the password prompt appears because there are still
more stepts to do. Go to Tools and then Account Settings.

Click on Server Settings and choose SSL from the list. Make sure that the port number changes to 993.

Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) on the left side, select the email.mtu.edu server and click Edit.

Complete the following information:
- Description (if desired)
- Server name - make sure it is email.mtu.edu
- Port - Use 25 unless your Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocks this port. In that case, use 2525
- Make sure that Use name and password is checked
- Make sure that your User name is correct
- Click on the TLS radio button
- Click OK when you are finished

Click OK.

Click on Get Mail near the top left and when prompted, enter your password.
