What is LDAP and what is it used for?
LDAP stands for the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol and
is used to look up names and contact information for people in the
directory. You can use it to lookup the contact information for your
professors or teaching assistants or even fellow students depending on
their privacy settings.

Open Windows Mail and go to Tools and then Accounts...

Click Add...

Choose Directory Service and click Next

For Internet directory (LDAP) server: type ldap.mtu.edu and click Next

You can choose to have Windows Mail check e-mail address you type with the directory. This can take a short while longer, but can help prevent simple errors and complete any e-mail address of users in Michigan Tech's directory. Once you choose, click Next

Click Finish

Select ldap.mtu.edu if it isn't already and click Properties

Go to the Advanced tab and type the following exactly, without spaces under Search base: ou=people,dc=mtu,dc=edu

Click OK and Close
How do I search for people?

Open Windows Mail if it isn't already open and click the Edit menu, then Find and click on People.

Make sure that ldap.mtu.edu is selected under Look in:

Go to the Advanced tab and define the criteria for the search

Add what you can about the person you are looking up and click the Add button for each addition piece of information

When you are done, click Find Now

The matches for your search (if any) should appear shortly
